Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Metric Duck's financial data API

What data does Metric Duck provide?

Metric Duck provides comprehensive financial data sourced directly from SEC Edgar filings, including 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K reports. We offer pre-calculated financial metrics (ROIC, WACC, FCF), ratios, and complete financial statements for 5,000+ US public companies.

Where does the data come from?

All data is sourced directly from SEC Edgar filings - the official source for US public company disclosures. Every metric links back to its source filing so you can verify accuracy. We parse XBRL data and compute additional metrics to save you time.

How often is data updated?

Financial statement data is updated within 24-48 hours of SEC filing releases. Company pages show 'Last Updated' timestamps. We monitor SEC Edgar continuously for new filings and process them automatically.

Which companies are covered?

We cover 5,000+ US public companies that file with the SEC, including all S&P 500, Russell 1000, and most Russell 2000 companies. Coverage includes operating companies, banks, insurance firms, REITs, and financial institutions.

How accurate is the financial data?

Our data is parsed directly from SEC XBRL filings using a combination of automated extraction and validation rules. Every metric includes a link to its source filing for verification. We also provide 'Last Updated' timestamps and data quality indicators.

What is the pricing?

We offer 4 pricing tiers: Free ($0, 10 alerts/month), Starter ($10/month, 30 alerts), Pro ($20/month, 100 alerts, CSV export), and Power ($40/month, 400 alerts, API access). The Free tier is permanent and generous—full access to S&P 500 data, 200+ metrics, and DCF calculator. See /pricing for full details.

Is there an API?

API access is coming in Q1 2026 for Power tier users ($40/month). The API will provide JSON endpoints for all financial data, metrics, and company information with 50K calls/month. In the meantime, you can use CSV exports (available in Pro tier and above) to access the data programmatically.

What metrics are pre-calculated?

We pre-compute 300+ financial metrics including ROIC (Return on Invested Capital), WACC (Weighted Average Cost of Capital), Free Cash Flow, various profitability ratios, growth metrics, balance sheet strength indicators, and DCF valuation inputs. This saves you hours of manual calculation.

How do I report data issues?

If you find any data discrepancies, please contact us at [email protected] with the company ticker, metric name, and expected vs actual values. We investigate all reports and update our parsing logic as needed to improve accuracy.

Can I download the data?

Yes, you can export financial statements and metrics to CSV format directly from company pages. This allows you to analyze data in Excel, build custom models, or integrate with your own tools.
